Bring your thoughts and experiences to Istanbul

It takes some courage to attend international congresses as an active participant instead of just being a part of the audience. The fear of saying something wrong during a presentation or presenting their work in a foreign language in front of a multi-national audience worries most of the young scientists, and leads them to leave the oral presentations to seniors. Also the time restrictions in such congresses do not help.
On the other hand when we are meeting with a patient or tutoring a student, we are the masters. We all have something to contribute to the Family Medicine discipline and practice, and teach our fellow colleagues. The substantiality of Family Medicine comes from the reality that each patient is unique; and the variety of problems, approaches and treatments are simply so vast that it cannot fit into any guidelines.
If we are promoting being young and staying young than we need to accept that the most efficient way to obtain this is to combine the questions, comments and experiences of the youth with seniors’ wisdom.
WONCA Europe 2015 welcomes everybody who has a “word to say”, “experience to share” or “questions to ask” to be part of the congress and become a speaker. We want you to bring your thoughts and experiences; BRITEs. We know that patient visits are sessions where problems are discovered and solutions are offered. What kind of difficulties do you face and how do you cope (or not) with them?   Submit your specific subject, defined in 150 words through abstract submission page. We will make the BRITE’s accessible to everybody so that other colleagues who have similar problems or who might offer solutions can contribute. You can also jump into already opened BRITE sessions.
The FIRST 20 subscribers to a single BRITE will be in the program as speakers. If there are more than 20 subscribers, another BRITE session with the same subject may be opened. Each BRITE session will be scheduled for 75 minutes.
We look forward for your BRITEs to Istanbul, WONCA Europe 2015 Conference.

One of the most stressing things for me is to start on insulin on a type 2 diabetes patient. The guidelines are quite certain about this; however the risk of patient going in to hypoglycemia scares me, especially for elder patients. I developed a solution for these situations: there is an endocrinology specialist at a nearby hospital. I send the patient information to him for his approval. This increases my self-confidence and if there will be a complication with the patient in the future and I am relatively relieved of responsibility. What if my endocrinologist friend leaves the hospital and finds a job elsewhere; this is my biggest fear. How do you deal with such situations?
